Describe a souvenir you brought back from a trip that holds memories

Most tourist souvenirs are mass-produced plastic trinkets destined for a junk drawer, but the souvenir that holds immense pride of place in my home is an authentic, hand-painted ceramic tile—known culturally as an 'azulejo'—which I acquired while wandering through the historic Alfama quarter of Lisbon, Portugal.

I purchased it directly from a diminutive, dusty pottery atelier run by an elderly artisan who was sitting at a wooden workbench, delicately painting intricate geometric floral motifs with a fine sable brush. The tile is a fifteen-centimeter terracotta square, painted with traditional cobalt-blue and white tin-glaze before being fired in a wood-burning kiln. When you inspect the surface closely, you can see subtle imperfections and fine glaze crackle that prove it was created by human hands rather than an automated screen printer.

Today, the tile is mounted on a small wooden easel on my study desk, right next to my computer monitor. Whenever I feel bogged down by tedious spreadsheet work or dreary winter rain outside my window, glancing at that vibrant cobalt tile functions as an instant sensory portal. It transports me straight back to the sun-drenched cobblestone alleys of Lisbon—smelling freshly grilled sardines, hearing the melancholic chords of fado music echoing from taverns, and feeling the warmth of the Mediterranean breeze. It is a miniature window into a joyful summer of exploration.
