Most people view transit as a tedious inconvenience, but during a winter trip across Switzerland two years ago, the journey itself became the crowning highlight of our holiday. My sister and I boarded the Glacier Express, a renowned panoramic train that traverses the Swiss Alps between Zermatt and St. Moritz.

The trip lasted roughly eight hours, yet the time genuinely flew by. The train is equipped with vaulted glass ceiling windows, offering unimpeded, three-hundred-and-sixty-degree vistas of pristine winter wonderlands. We wound our way through snow-draped alpine passes, passed frosted pine forests, and crossed nearly three hundred bridges.

What took my breath away was crossing the famous Landwasser Viaduct—a dizzying stone arch bridge towering sixty-five meters above a frozen river ravine, plunging straight into a mountain tunnel. The train moved at a deliberate, leisurely pace, allowing passengers to savor every vista while sipping hot chocolate. Looking back on it now, it was a quintessential example of 'slow travel.' In a world where we constantly rush to board planes and reach destinations in a blur, sitting back and watching the majestic mountains unfold outside our window was pure, unadulterated relaxation.
