Listening Test Overview

The Listening test is the same for both Academic and General Training modules. It lasts for approximately 30 minutes, plus an extra 10 minutes at the end to transfer your answers to the answer sheet.

• Section 1: A conversation between two people in an everyday social context (e.g., booking a hotel).
• Section 2: A monologue set in an everyday social context (e.g., a speech about local facilities).
• Section 3: A conversation between up to four people in an educational or training context (e.g., a university tutor and a student discussing an assignment).
• Section 4: A monologue on an academic subject (e.g., a university lecture).

The test gets progressively more difficult from Section 1 to Section 4.

You will encounter a variety of question types. It's important to be familiar with all of them.
